HENRY GEORGE KELLER 1870 -1949 Etcher and painter Henry G. Keller was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He was an innovative, prize winning watercolorist who taught at the Cleveland School of Art. There, he influenced another generation of watercolorists, some who became quite well known, including Charles Burchfield, Frank Wilcox, and Paul Travis. Keller also was an oil painter. A group of five of his paintings received a Special Prize for Maintained Excellence in 1919. Keller’s etchings were sketch-like. He did many studies of animals, particularly horses and pigs, using the etching process. Works are in the Cleveland Museum of Art collection, and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
