MARY MARGARET BRENTON
1914 – 2016
Margaret Brenton was a Kansas City, Missouri artist. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a BFA in art and went to work at the Siegrist Engraving Company in Kansas City where she learned the art of etching. Brenton is an example of many artists who spend most of their lives using their talents in commercial endeavors but who also make time for doing art of personal expression or who change art directions after retirement. Many times, biographical information on these artists is limited with most of their work done within a corporate entity.
In her work, Brenton was a realist with deft draftsmanship. Her etchings were accepted into National Print Annual exhibitions in New York, California, Kansas and Missouri.
Margaret Brenton moved to Colorado Springs when she was 79 and began to produce etchings and paintings there of subjects that appealed to her. She also wrote poetry and was the author and illustrator of several published books of poetry.
